New Orleans, April 30, 2024 – Holy Cross is proud to announce that Senior Clarence “CJ” Davis was selected as a 2024 Amazon Future Engineer(AFE) Scholarship Recipient. He is one of five Louisiana students to be selected for this prestigious scholarship opportunity. Amazon Future Engineer Scholarship program provides students with an opportunity to upgrade their careers with up to $40,000 in scholarships.
Winners of the Amazon Future Engineer scholarship also receive an offer to complete a summer industry internship after completing their freshman year of college. AFE interns work embedded on a software or hardware engineering team and pair up with a co-intern, manager, and mentors to build projects that have a real impact on Amazon customers. Interns get to work on some of Amazon’s groundbreaking technologies and core platforms, like Alexa voice technology, Amazon Web Services, and the Amazon retail platform. At the end of the summer, most interns ship production-level code to Amazon!
Here on campus, CJ is a standout member of the Holy Cross School basketball team. Aside from athletics, he is a selected member of the ambassador team. His involvement as an ambassador for Holy Cross School reflects his desire to make a positive impact within the school and beyond.
In addition to his Holy Cross involvement, CJ is an altar server at St. Joseph the Worker Catholic Church. He also generously volunteers his time with the Junior Zulu Club. Through his extracurricular activities, he actively contributes to community service initiatives, demonstrating his commitment to social responsibility and making a meaningful difference in the lives of others.
CJ plans to use his scholarship award at Louisiana State University (LSU). His commitment to LSU reflects his determination to pursue higher education and continue making significant contributions to both his academic and local communities.
When asked about his thoughts on the scholarship he said "I am grateful for the scholarship and the opportunity it gives me for higher education. I am also appreciative of all that Holy Cross has done to help me get to this point in my education.”
